The Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, will lead other dignitaries at the public presentation of a new book examining the reforms of the service and their implications for the Nigerian economy.

The book presentation, scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2026, in Abuja, will be hosted by Mr Adeniyi, while Zamfara State Governor, Dr Dauda Lawal, will attend as the Special Guest of Honour.

The book, titled *Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023: Historical Context, Service Reforms and Predicament of Application*, was authored by a retired Comptroller of Customs, Abdullahi Bello Gusau.

According to a statement issued by the author on Thursday, the event will take place at the Ahmed Makarfi Hall of the Nigeria Customs Service Command and Staff College, Gwagwalada, Abuja.

Former Zamfara State Governor and Chairman of the Nigerian Governors Forum, Sen. Abdulaziz Abubakar Yari, will serve as the chief launcher at the event.

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, will be the Royal Father of the Day, while former Kebbi State Governor, Sen. Adamu Aliero, will review the book.

Other dignitaries expected at the event include the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Customs, Excise and Tariff, Sen. Jibrin Isah, and his counterpart in the House of Representatives, Hon. Leke Joseph Abejide.

Prof. Kabir M. Danladi, a former Head of the Department of Public Law, Faculty of Law, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, wrote the foreword to the book.

The publication examines the historical context and implementation of reforms within the Nigeria Customs Service, with particular attention to the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023.

It also offers reflections on transparency, accountability, justice, due process, equity and service delivery within the public service.

The presentation comes amid ongoing efforts by the NCS under Adeniyi’s leadership to strengthen revenue generation, facilitate legitimate trade and modernise customs operations through reforms and technology.

The event is expected to bring together policymakers, customs officials, legal practitioners, academics and other stakeholders to examine the implications of the 2023 Customs Act and the broader reform agenda of the service.
