International footballer, 27, k!lled at home after being attacked by gang

An international footballer has been k!lled outside of his home after he was attacked by a gang wielding paving stones. 
David Owori, 27, was one of Uganda’s most recognisable footballers. 
He was k!lled in Kampala when robbers attempted to steal his mobile phone. Police said Owori resisted the robbery when he was attacked, with witnesses alleging he was attacked with paving stones. 
He was rushed to a local medical facility, before being transferred private facility in the city, but he tragically di£d of his injuries on Wednesday, August 5. 
His club, SC Villa, have lead the tributes with a statement. 
It read: “Sports Club Villa has called upon the relevant security and law enforcement agencies to urgently investigate and bring to justice those responsible for the tragic d£ath of club captain David Owori, who succumbed to injuries sustained following a brutal assault by unknown assailants. 
“We call upon the relevant security and law enforcement agencies to urgently pursue, apprehend, and bring to justice the perpetrators of this heinous crime. 
The club described Owori’s passing as a devastating loss, noting that Uganda has lost not only an accomplished footballer but also an exceptional leader and role model. 
The statement continues: “This senseless act has robbed the club and the country of a committed captain and a promising sportsman, and it must not go unanswered. 
“David Owori will be remembered as a dedicated servant of SC Villa, a respected leader on and off the pitch, and a player whose commitment, professionalism, and passion for the badge inspired team-mates and supporters alike. 
“As the football community continues to mourn one of its finest leaders, SC Villa once again calls upon the authorities to deliver justice and ensure that those responsible are held accountable. 
“The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Sports Club Villa remain with David Owori’s family, friends, team-mates, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.” 
The Ugandan Football Federation added he was “a true leader on and off the pitch”. 
He had played in Europe, spending some time with Spanish side Vélez CF, moving to Sweden to join Utsiktens BK the following season. 
He also turned out for the Ugandan national team.
