The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency has cautioned parents to exercise heightened vigilance regarding their children’s consumption of confectionery items, specifically cookies and gummies, warning that traffickers are deploying increasingly sophisticated methods to conceal illicit substances within such products.

The agency’s media and advocacy director highlighted the concern through a social media post on Sunday, citing recent seizures demonstrating escalating attempts by criminal networks to disguise controlled substances as ordinary confections.

The director advised that parents whose children demonstrate persistent cravings for cookies and gummies exercise increased attention, cautioning that such consumption patterns may involve hidden elements beyond conventional ingredients.

Recent interdictions by agency operatives revealed deliberate schemes by trafficking organisations attempting to smuggle illegal substances masquerading as confectionery merchandise.

Photographs accompanying the advisory displayed colourfully packaged products labelled with descriptions incorporating references to controlled substances, marketed under various flavour designations including Hawaiian Rain, Pineapple Guava and Thai Mango variants.

In parallel enforcement actions, NDLEA operatives intercepted freight containing cocaine concealed within mobile telephone charging devices destined for Saudi Arabia.

The director cautioned citizens, particularly those engaged in travel, against accepting items for transportation or delivering parcels on behalf of unknown parties without verifying contents, emphasising that drug smugglers continuously refine deceptive packaging and concealment methodologies.

The agency reinforced its appeal for heightened public consciousness as a component of broader anti-narcotics operations aimed at restricting illicit substance circulation and safeguarding susceptible demographics, particularly youth populations.
