Police in Rivers intensify crackdown on kidnapping, arrest five suspects

The Rivers State Police Command says its crackdown on kidnapping and other violent crimes has led to the arrest of five suspects in Oyibo LGA of the state.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe, said this in a statement issued on Thursday in Port Harcourt.

Agabe said that the arrest of five members of a kidnapping syndicate was effected by operatives of the Oyibo Divisional Police Headquarters.

“The suspects, aged between 44 and 65 years, were allegedly involved in several kidnapping incidents across the state.

“During interrogation, the suspects admitted participating in several kidnapping operations within the Kom-Kom, Railway, Obeama and Afam communities,” she said.

Agabe added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend other members of the criminal syndicate who remain at large.

The spokesperson quoted the Commissioner of Police in Rivers, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, as saying the operation underscored the command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and sustained offensive against criminal elements.

Adepoju reaffirmed the command’s resolve to sustain aggressive operations against kidnapping, cultism, armed robbery and other violent crimes in the state.

“There will be no safe haven for kidnappers and other criminal elements. We will continue to pursue, arrest and ensure they are brought to justice,” he said.

The CP also assured residents of the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

He urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide credible and timely information to support security agencies in preventing crime and apprehending offenders.
