Tinubu begins three-week vacation in Europe ahead of ‘hectic’ 2027 election campaign season

President Bola Tinubu will on Sunday depart Abuja for Europe to begin a three-week vacation as part of his annual leave.

The presidency disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.

According to the statement, Mr Tinubu’s first destination will be London, United Kingdom, where he is expected to spend part of the vacation.

The president is expected to use the period for a working vacation before returning to Nigeria at the end of the three-week leave.

“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja today for Europe to begin a three-week vacation as part of his annual leave,” Mr Onanuga said.

“His first stop will be London, United Kingdom.”

The presidency said Mr Tinubu would return to Nigeria after the vacation to join the campaign activities ahead of the January 2027 election.

“President Tinubu is expected to return home after the working vacation to join the hectic campaign for the January 2027 election,” the statement added.

The trip comes as political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections intensify, with political parties and their candidates expected to step up mobilisation and campaign activities in the coming months.

Mr Tinubu’s administration has, meanwhile, continued to pursue its economic and governance agenda, while political alignments and preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum across the country.

The president’s three-week leave is part of his annual vacation and is not expected to affect the continued functioning of government, with relevant officials expected to oversee government activities during his absence.
