Transmission constraints affecting power supply to Abuja – AEDC

The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company, AEDC, has attributed the ongoing reduction in electricity supply across Abuja and parts of its franchise area to transmission constraints and low power generation.

The management of AEDC announced this on its X handle on Wednesday.

The management said that the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, had been experiencing challenges affecting electricity supply to Abuja since Tuesday.

According to AEDC, the tripping of transmission lines supplying Abuja from the Shiroro Transmission Station has significantly reduced the amount of electricity available to AEDC.

It said available supply had dropped from approximately 641 megawatts to 314 megawatts, substantially affecting its ability to provide electricity to customers.

It further said that load shedding was currently being implemented across several feeders, including Band A feeders, because of the reduced power available from the transmission network.

The company said that the National Control Centre (NCC) had also reported low generation levels, further worsening the electricity supply situation.

“We understand the impact this has on our customers and sincerely regret the inconvenience,” AEDC said.

The company said that it was engaging with relevant stakeholders and would continue to optimise available electricity supply as the transmission and generation situation improved.

It appealed for patience the and understanding of the its customers, as efforts continued to address the supply constraints.
