UNIZIK Bans Final Year Signing Off Activities Across Campus

Nnamdi Azikiwe University management has instituted a comprehensive prohibition on all forms of organisation, celebration or signing-off activities conducted by final year students in connection with examination completion, effective immediately across all university premises and campuses.

The Director of Information and Public Relations indicated that the decision resulted from recurrent incidents involving chaos, violence, vandalism and disruption of academic and administrative functions associated with such events.

Management expressed concern regarding the infiltration of unauthorised external persons onto campus during these activities, characterising their presence as a serious risk to student and staff safety and security of university property.

In fulfilling its statutory responsibility to preserve order, protect lives and safeguard facilities, management determined such activities constitute unacceptable conduct and violation of institutional regulations.

The university warned that students found engaged in, organising or participating in any signing-off or related activities would face severe disciplinary consequences including rustication and withdrawal in accordance with the Students’ Handbook.

Non-students or external persons discovered on university premises in connection with such activities shall face arrest and prosecution for breach of peace, trespass and disorderly conduct.

The University Registrar had separately communicated to the campus community, directing students to concentrate on academic responsibilities whilst requesting all stakeholders to report suspected or ongoing misconduct instances to appropriate university authorities including the Chief Safety Officer, Dean of Student Affairs or the nearest administrative official.

The university under Vice Chancellor Prof. Bond Ugochukwu Stanley Anyaehie remains dedicated to maintaining a safe, peaceful and conducive atmosphere for teaching, learning and research operations, pledging that management will not permit actions undermining this institutional commitment.
