FRSC targets unregistered fleet operators as RTSSS enforcement begins on Abia roads

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Abia State Sector Command, says it would commence the 2026 road transport safety standardization scheme, RTSSS, enforcement week in the state on Monday, saying that it is a strategic effort at reducing road traffic fatalities and injuries.

The Sector Commander of FRSC in Abia State, Ngozi Ezeoma, who said disclosed this in a press statement, said the enforcement was not designed to punish road transporters but was in line with the directive of the Corps Marshal of the FRSC.

She said that the enforcement which will run from Monday, 13th July to Friday, 17th July, 2026, is a nationwide exercise aimed at strengthening compliance with the road transport safety standardization scheme among fleet operators, reducing road traffic crashes through data-driven interventions.

According to Ezeoma, the exercise will focus on increasing awareness of the RTSSS, encouraging the registration of unregistered fleet operators, ensuring compliance with speed limiting device installation, promoting the use of approved passenger manifests, ensuring school bus operators comply with the regulations, and also increasing the use of RTSSS certification stickers.

She disclosed that enforcement teams across Abia State will carry out intensive patrols, public enlightenment campaigns, and where necessary, prosecute offenders through mobile court sittings.

Ezeoma added that random drug and alcohol tests may also be conducted on drivers of fleet operators during the exercise.

The sector commander assured the Abia public that adequate personnel and logistics have been deployed across strategic routes within the state to ensure effective enforcement, prompt rescue services where necessary, and minimal inconvenience to law-abiding road users.

She further appealed to fleet operators, transport companies, school bus operators and commercial drivers to take advantage of the enforcement week to regularize their operations and comply fully with all road safety regulations.

“The RTSSS is not intended to punish operators but to promote professionalism, improve fleet safety management and protect the lives of motorists and passengers,” the Abia FRSC sector commander said.
