How to apply for FG’s loan for smartphones, others

The Federal Government has opened applications for its newly launched consumer credit scheme that enables Nigerians to acquire smartphones, laptops and tablets through flexible payment plans.

The initiative, known as the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.) Programme, is being implemented by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in partnership with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.

The programme was unveiled on Tuesday in Abuja by the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, alongside the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CREDICORP, Uzoma Nwagba.

According to the Federal Government, the scheme is designed to make digital devices more affordable by allowing eligible Nigerians to pay in instalments instead of making full upfront payments. The programme will initially focus on locally assembled laptops as part of efforts to promote local manufacturing.

How to apply

Interested applicants can apply by following these steps:

  • Visit the official C.L.I.C.K.D. portal at credicorp.ng/clickd.
  • Click on “I’m Interested” to access the application form.
  • Complete the form by providing the required information, including:
    • State of residence.
    • Employment status, such as salary earner, freelancer, business owner, student, job seeker or NYSC member.
    • Monthly income (optional).
    • Whether you belong to a digital talent programme, including 3MTT, Andela Learning Community, Learn2Earn, ALX Africa, HNG Internship, AltSchool Africa, Genesys Tech Hub or another programme.
    • The device you need, whether a laptop, smartphone, tablet or another digital device.
    • The purpose of the device, such as learning, remote work, freelancing, business, software development or content creation.
    • How you heard about the programme.

Applicants are also required to confirm that the information provided is accurate, consent to being contacted regarding their application, and authorise CREDICORP and its partners to assess their eligibility before submitting the form.

Who is eligible?

For now, the programme is being rolled out through a pilot phase limited to 1,000 laptops for fellows of the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme.

Nwagba said the rollout began in Abuja, where 77 beneficiaries received devices, while the remaining laptops will be distributed to eligible fellows across other states in phases.

However, the application portal also lists participants in programmes such as Andela Learning Community, Learn2Earn, ALX Africa, HNG Internship, AltSchool Africa and Genesys Tech Hub, suggesting that members of these initiatives may also be able to submit applications, although CREDICORP has so far publicly confirmed only 3MTT fellows as beneficiaries of the current pilot phase.

CREDICORP is yet to announce details of the loan’s interest rate, repayment period or any required down payment.
