Man Killed in Clash Over Keke Levy as Police Arrest Two Suspects

A 29-year-old man was killed in a violent altercation between commercial tricycle (keke NAPEP) operators at Angwan Kassa in Jalingo, the capital of Taraba State, on Wednesday.

According to reports, the deceased, Jessy Markus, was in charge of providing the daily operational pass that members of the commercial tricycle riders’ union needed before starting daily operations.

A man identified as Markus has reportedly been st@bbed to d£ath in Angwan Kassa, Taraba State, following a dispute with a commercial tricycle rider over a daily pass levy.

According to eyewitnesses, the incident began when Markus stopped a commercial tricycle rider who allegedly failed to obtain the mandatory daily pass, insisting that the rider purchase it before continuing operations.

A witness identified as Sunday said the rider abandoned his tricycle at the scene and left, only to return later with his younger brother and several associates, some of whom were armed with knives.

What began as a heated argument quickly escalated into a violent confrontation during which Markus was allegedly st@bbed in the neck.

The attack sparked panic across the area, forcing residents, traders and fellow tricycle operators to flee as the violence unfolded.

A security operative who spoke on condition of anonymity said they received a distress call and immediately mobilised to the scene to assess the situation and prevent further escalation.

Police sources confirmed that two suspects, the tricycle rider and his younger brother, were arrested and remain in custody while investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the k!lling.

The security source said Markus was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo, where he was pronounced dead on arrival, adding that his remains have since been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary.

Following the incident, armed security personnel, supported by a police patrol vehicle, were deployed to the area to maintain law and order and prevent any breakdown of peace.

As of the time of filing this report, the Taraba State Police Command had not issued an official public statement on the incident, while investigations remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances surrounding the fatal attack.
