Man rescued unhurt after being trapped in faulty elevator on Lagos Island


The Lagos State Fire Service has rescued a man after he became trapped in a malfunctioning elevator in a three-storey building on Freeman Street, Zapass, Lagos Island LCDA.
Controller General of the service, Margaret Adeseye, disclosed this in a statement on July 21, 2026.
According to the statement, a distress call was received at about 11:50 a.m., on Tuesday, prompting the deployment of a rescue team from the Ebute Elefun Fire Station, which arrived at the scene five minutes later.
Firefighters immediately began rescue operations and safely freed the occupant from the elevator without any injuries.
“The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service responded to a rescue call received at 11:50 hrs on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, concerning an adult male trapped inside an elevator in a three-storey building located at Freeman Street, Zapass, Lagos Island East LCDA, Lagos Island,” the statement read.
“The first response crew from the Ebute Elefun Fire Station arrived at the scene at 11:55 hrs and immediately commenced rescue operations.
“The trapped occupant was successfully rescued from the elevator without sustaining any injuries.
“Preliminary findings indicate that the incident was caused by an accidental elevator malfunction. No casualty was recorded during the operation.”
