Outgoing Rotary president urges sustained community service

The outgoing President of the Rotary Club of Abuja, The Ambassadors, Nelly Williams, has urged members to remain committed to community service as she handed over the club’s leadership to Prince Herberts.

Williams made the appeal during the club’s leadership handover ceremony in Abuja, describing her one-year tenure as one marked by purpose, service and impact.

She said under the Rotary theme, “Unite for Good,” the club implemented projects that improved lives, strengthened partnerships and reinforced Rotary’s commitment to humanitarian service.

“It has been a year of purpose, service and impact. Together, we touched lives, strengthened partnerships and reinforced Rotary’s commitment to making a difference,” she said.

According to her, Rotary remains a global network of volunteers and professionals committed to the principle of Service Above Self through interventions in education, healthcare, peacebuilding, environmental protection, maternal and child health, and economic empowerment.

Williams said the club’s greatest achievement was not the number of projects executed but the lives impacted, hope restored and relationships built.

Expressing confidence in her successor, she urged members to remain dedicated through active participation, teamwork and selfless service.

“I have every confidence in the incoming president. I believe the club will continue to grow stronger and achieve an even greater impact,” she added.

The incoming President, Herberts, said his administration would be guided by the Rotary theme, “Create Lasting Impact.”

He pledged to build on the achievements of the outgoing administration and expand the club’s humanitarian activities.

“I am deeply honoured to serve as president. We will build on existing achievements and expand our service to humanity,” Herberts said.

The Assistant Governor of Rotary, Lizzy Asomugha, congratulated Williams on what she described as a successful tenure, expressing confidence that the incoming president would sustain the club’s achievements and advance Rotary’s humanitarian mission.

Also speaking, sister of the outgoing president, Damka Brown, described Williams’ leadership as inspiring and  impactful.

“I am proud of my sister’s commitment to service, and I congratulate her on completing a successful tenure,” Brown said.

While her son, Williams Ngalaba, said his mother’s dedication to service had continued to inspire members of the family.

“My mother’s dedication to serving others inspires me. I am proud of her achievements and the positive difference she has made,” he said.
