The representative of Abia North Senatorial District, Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has no serious competition ahead of the 2027 presidential election, describing the opposition as too weak to stop him.

The former Abia State governor said this on Wednesday when he featured on a Channels Television programme: “Talking Politics.”

Kalu defended the electoral prospects of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections despite concerns over economic hardship.

He maintained that Tinubu remained ahead of his potential challengers.

He said: “President Tinubu has no competition.

“And I’m still repeating it again to you.”

Kalu argued that the APC’s political strength and the achievements of the administration put the President in a strong position ahead of the election.

According to him, the government had recorded achievements that had not been sufficiently communicated to Nigerians.

He said: “I mean, a lot of things have been done by this government.

“It’s just that we are very, very unlucky that we didn’t market it very well.”

Kalu reiterated his assessment of the opposition, saying: “So he has no competition.

“The opposition is very weak.

“I repeat it again to you.”

When challenged over whether he was being overconfident, particularly considering the economic difficulties confronting Nigerians, the senator maintained his position.

He, however, acknowledged that a united opposition would present a more significant challenge to the ruling party.

The former two-term governor said: “The opposition is very weak.

“If they were together, we would start having some sleepless nights.

“Now they are not together.”

Asked specifically about the array of politicians expected to challenge Tinubu, Kalu dismissed them as individual threats.

He said: “I told you what I said.

“I said all these people are not threats.

“If they have been together, can be a problem.”

Asked whether an opposition coalition should give the APC sleepless nights, Kalu responded: “Yes, it should give us a little, but not too much.

“No, I’m not having sleepless nights.”

The senator also expressed confidence that Tinubu would emerge victorious in 2027.
