AUN secures NUC approval for five postgraduate programmes

The American University of Nigeria (AUN), Yola, Adamawa State has received approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to introduce five postgraduate programmes in Law and Economics.

The approval, effective from the 2026/2027 academic session, followed a successful resource assessment by the commission.

The university announced this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Yola by its Executive Director of Marketing and Communications, Yusuf Mohammed.

The approved programmes are Master of Science (M.Sc.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Economics, as well as Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Law, Master of Laws (LL.M.) and Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Law.

The President of AUN, Dr. DeWayne Frazier, said the approval marked another milestone in the university’s graduate education journey.

Frazier said it reflected the steady growth of AUN’s School of Graduate Studies and its increasing contribution to research, scholarship and academic excellence.

He added that the school had recorded significant enrolment growth over the past three years, strengthening the university’s research output and national influence.

According to him, the new programmes will meet the growing demand for advanced education in Law and Economics while expanding the university’s academic offerings and impact.

Also, Prof. Bolade Agboola, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences, said the approval of the Economics programmes marked a natural progression of AUN’s undergraduate Economics programme.

Agboola expressed confidence that the university’s faculty and facilities would produce graduates capable of competing globally.

He said the programmes would admit their first students in the 2026/2027 academic session, creating opportunities for advanced study, interdisciplinary research and professional development.

He added that the approval reaffirmed AUN’s commitment to developing ethical leaders, advancing knowledge and providing practical solutions to national and global challenges.
