Commissioner suspended for attack on Governor’s aide over Tinubu

The Delta State Government has indefinitely suspended the Commissioner for Works (Highways and Urban Roads), Reuben Izeze, over allegations linking him to a violent clash at a political stakeholders meeting cum rally for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) in Effurun.

The clash reportedly involved an attack on Temple Mudi, a Senior Special Assistant on Protocol to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori.

This was during discussions tied to political alignments and support for President Tinubu.

Thugs allegedly linked to Commissioner Izeze were said to have severely attacked and stabbed Mudi, who was supporting the pro-Tinubu campaign initiative.

Mudi was reportedly hospitalised after being found in a pool of blood.

The circumstances surrounding the attack, including the identities of those allegedly involved and whether Izeze had any direct connection to the incident, remain subject of investigation.

But reports emerged on July 27 that Izeze had been arrested and taken to the Ekpan Police Station in connection with the incident.

The Eagle Online also learnt that a High Court sitting in Effurun, Delta State has remanded the Works Commissioner for 14 days over the alleged attack on Mudi.

Following a court order remanding the commissioner, the state suspended him from office with immediate effect.

The suspension was announced in a statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Dr. Kingsley Emu, on Monday.

According to the statement, the government suspended Izeze to allow security agencies to conduct an “unbiased investigation” into allegations associating him with the reported assault of Mudi at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, Delta State.

The state government said the decision was necessary to ensure that the investigation could proceed without interference.

“The suspension is to enable the Security Agencies carry out an unbiased investigation of allegations associating him with the assault on the Senior Special Assistant on Protocol, Mr. Simon Mudi also known as Temple, at the Petroleum Training Institute (PTI), Effurun, recently,” the statement said.

The government also reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public safety and upholding law and order, stressing that the sanctity of human lives must be protected in all circumstances.

It said its position remained that public safety and the rule of law must be upheld “even when institutions of state are involved.”
