Lawyer Threatens to Sue Opay Over Poor Customer Service, Account Statement Delay

Society Herald online reports that a popular Nigerian lawyer has threatened to sue fintech giant Opay over the delay he has experienced in obtaining his account statement despite repeated requests.
The legal practitioner made this known on his X (formerly Twitter) account, explaining that he had requested the statement a long time ago, but the financial institution had yet to provide him with anything tangible.
Comments under his post also suggest that some of his followers are aware of the situation, with a couple of them blaming Opay for allowing such a delay.
One of the comments highlighted the poor customer service rendered by the financial institution but praised its superb network.
“Opay’s customer service is very poor but the network is superb.”
Likewise, another user encouraged the legal practitioner to sue Opay, saying that their account had been frozen for no apparent reason.
“Please do. My account has been restricted for absolutely no reason and they’re asking me to get a court order.”
While some users confirmed that they do not experience such delays when requesting their account statements, most pointed out the poor customer service they experience with the financial institution.
It’s not the first time for Opay
Meanwhile, this is not the first time Opay has been accused of providing poor customer service, especially when issues arise.
It would be recalled that in 2024, it was in the news that customers were left in panic following the sudden disappearance of funds from their accounts without explanation.
According to many of them, they tried to transfer money, but due to technical issues, the payments failed. However, instead of the funds remaining in their accounts, they were debited without receiving any receipt for the transactions.
Although the customers were eventually refunded, during the period of the perceived glitch, the bank did not respond to customers or explain what had gone wrong.
