A Nigerian woman has sparked debate on social media after calling out men who, according to her, are quick to flirt when a woman shares her emotions but become unresponsive when she talks about financial difficulties.
In a video shared on X (formerly Twitter), the lady criticised what she described as the double standards of some men, arguing that they are often eager to respond to emotional or intimate conversations but reluctant to offer practical support when money is involved.
Sharing her thoughts, she said men frequently turn ordinary conversations into flirtatious exchanges.
“There is something men do these days that pisses me off so badly. I tell you the weather is so cold and the next thing you say is, ‘Weather for two, I wish I was there to warm you.’ I tell you I feel emotional or horny, and you say, ‘I wish I was there,’” she said.
She noted that the tone of the conversation changes the moment she mentions financial challenges.
According to her, instead of offering help, many men simply respond with sympathy and end the discussion.
“Then I tell you that I have a problem, that I’m low on cash and have so much to do, and you say, ‘Oh dear, so sorry. I hope things get better,’” she said.
Questioning the contrast in their responses, she added:
“Why does my financial problem end with ‘sorry,’ but my emotional problems end with, ‘I wish I was there’? You wish you were here doing what?”
Her comments have since generated mixed reactions online, with social media users divided over expectations surrounding emotional support, flirting, and financial assistance in modern relationships.
