Nigerian-Irish Afrobeat Artist Golden Star Releases ‘Trader Man’

DUBLIN, IRELAND — Nigerian-Irish Afrobeat artist Golden Star, born Nelson Vickissing Izekor, has released a new single titled “Trader Man,” a socially conscious song celebrating the dignity, resilience and contributions of traders and working-class people.

Produced by Jiggle Jaiig, the track addresses what the artist describes as the exploitation and disrespect often faced by poor and hardworking people in society, particularly by those who use wealth and status to take advantage of others.

Golden Star said the song was inspired by the everyday struggles of market traders, hustlers and workers whose activities sustain families and contribute significantly to local economies.

“This song is for the Trader Man on the street,” he said. “The one who wakes up early, pays tax, and feeds the nation, but gets looked down on. We have dignity. We have hustle.”

Born on September 4, 1969, in Benin City, Edo State, Golden Star is currently based in Dublin, Ireland. Beyond music, he is also a chef and trained social worker, experiences he says have shaped the social themes reflected in his music.

“Trader Man” follows earlier releases including “Ebutte Metta” and “Communicate Me” in 2023, as well as “Baby Yeah” in 2025.

The new single blends traditional Afrobeat elements with contemporary Afropop influences and features a mix of English, Nigerian Pidgin and Edo expressions.

According to the artist, the song is intended not only to entertain but also to draw attention to the importance of respecting people regardless of their economic or social status.

With Nigerian and Irish citizenship, Golden Star said his music also reflects the experiences of Africans in the diaspora and seeks to create a bridge between African culture and audiences abroad.

He described his broader musical mission as one centred on speaking truth, uplifting communities and promoting African identity through music.

“Trader Man” further positions the Dublin-based artist as a socially conscious voice using Afrobeat to amplify the experiences of ordinary people and celebrate the dignity of honest labour.
