The 1996 set of prestigious St. Gregory’s College, Obalende, Lagos will on Saturday August 22, 2026 stage a novelty match as part of the 30th reunion anniversary of the alumni body of the school.

Early Saturday at 9am on the school pitch of St. Gregory’s College, the 1996 set will vie for honours against the set of 1995.

Many of the old students are really full of expectations with banters being thrown at one another in their respective social media platforms.

The organisers have tagged the novelty match: “A clash of pride, a day to remember.”

The Central Planning Committee, led by Peter Essien, has promised loads of excitement coupled with “great football, good music, food, drinks, fun, and banter”.

Essien on Wednesday told newsmen that all was set for the novelty match and other activities lined up for the 30th anniversary.

He noted that football being a unifying factor in Nigeria is making the novelty match a big talking point among his colleagues.

He said: “We have been planning for this in the past year and we are excited that the time is here to see ourselves and merry after about 30 years.

“The football match will be fun and exciting, but we have other activities like health talk, giving back to the school project, dinner also on the loaded Saturday.”

The Chairman of one of the Sub Committees, Soji Williams, is in charge of the solar project to be donated to the school on Saturday.
