Nigerian police have arrested a man allegedly involved in purchasing currency from beggars in Lagos and Ijebu, reportedly for use in money rituals.

During questioning, the suspect claimed that his boss routinely purchased the notes for ₦18,000.

According to him, any individual whose money was included among the purchased notes would fall seriously ill, a process he alleged enabled his boss to accumulate greater wealth.

He further disclosed that several other individuals were allegedly collaborating in the scheme across Lagos and Ijebu, suggesting a wider network involved in the alleged operation.

The video of his arrest and questioning has since circulated online with the caption “Serious matter, share for safety,” prompting widespread concern among social media users, many of whom have used the moment to caution beggars and members of the public to be wary of unusual currency purchase offers.

It remains unclear how many people may have been affected by the alleged scheme, and investigations into the matter are ongoing.
