The Lower Manya Krobo Circuit Court has sentenced a 35-year-old unemployed man, Anani Bakar, to four weeks’ imprisonment for stealing a bunch of plantains valued at GH¢200 in Nuaso Newtown, Eastern Region.
According to reports, the arrest followed a series of alleged crop thefts from the complainant’s farm, with Bakar eventually apprehended on the farm on August 16, 2026.
He was subsequently arraigned before the court, convicted, and handed the four-week custodial sentence.
The case adds to a broader pattern of farm and crop-related theft cases making their way through Ghana’s courts, with such offences continuing to affect farmers across various regions, particularly those relying on unsecured or remote farmland for their livelihoods.
It has not been disclosed whether Bakar had any prior offences or whether he pleaded guilty to the charge.
