CAN Warns Politicians Against Dragging Jesus Into 2027 Politics

The Christian Association of Nigeria has told politicians to stop using Jesus Christ’s name to push their political agendas ahead of next year’s election.

The CAN president said Christians must be careful about invoking Christ when arguing about politics.

He was reacting to comments made by Precious Oruche, known as Mama Pee, who referenced Jesus while making a political point about candidate Peter Obi and the 2027 race.

The CAN leader said Jesus is not a political candidate, a campaign slogan or a weapon to use against one politician or another.

His name is sacred and should not be dragged into partisan fights that make politicians look like they deserve the place that only God holds.

The president said Nigerians are free to support or criticise any candidate Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar or Bola Tinubu.

But political loyalty should never get so strong that people start talking about politicians in ways that show less respect for Christ.

Instead of invoking Jesus, he urged politicians and their supporters to base their campaigns on competence, character, policies and performance.

Let them disagree passionately if needed, but leave Jesus out of the partisan squabbles.

He warned against presenting politicians as saviour figures. No politician is the Messiah.

No political party represents the spiritual salvation Christ stands for.

No election victory is worth dishonoring Christ’s name.

As Nigeria heads toward the election season, he called on everyone politicians, their backers and all citizens to have political conversations with responsibility, restraint and respect for what they hold sacred.
