Kano 2027: Woman among 19 candidates challenging Governor Yusuf in governorship race

A sole female gubernatorial candidate in Kano, Furera Ahmad of the Boot Party (BP), is among the 19 contenders challenging Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State in the 2027 governorship election.

Lists of governorship candidates and their running mates  have been displayed at the Kano office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The list showed that 45 year-old Furera Ahmad is the only female candidate with Muhammad Usman as her running mate.

The ruling All Progressives Congress is fielding incumbent governor, Abba Yusuf with Murtala  Garo as his running mate, while the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has Abdussalam Aminu-Gwarzo with Rabiu Mustapha as his running mate.

Others are Dalha Muhammed-Bello contesting under Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with Akibu Sarki-Adamu as his running mate.

Similarly, Ibrahim Ali-Amin is flying the flag of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) alongside Shehu Abdulkadir-Bari, as his running mate.

The list also showed Muhammed Babayo-Abdullahi as the candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) with Zubairu Abdulkadir-Musa, as his running mate.

The Labour Party (LP) is being represented by Santuraki Hamisu with  Ibrahim Abbas, the former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kano  as his running mate.

Other political parties fielding candidates include African Democratic Party (ADP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), National Democratic Party (NDP), Young Progressives Party (YPP), Action Alliance (AA), and African Action Congress (AAC).

The remaining are All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Action Peoples Party (APP), Democratic Leadership Alliance (DLA), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), Accord Party (AP), and Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
