Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio convicted of Drink-Driving

Real Madrid defender Raúl Asencio has been convicted of a road safety offense after being found guilty of driving under the influence of alcohol in Gran Canaria.
A court source confirmed the conviction following an expedited trial in San Bartolomé de Tirajana, where the 23-year-old center-back was handed a â¬14,400 fine and an eight-month driving license suspension.
The incident occurred on August 16 when police stopped Asencio at a traffic checkpoint. A breathalyzer test returned a result of 0.90 mg/l of alcohol, more than three times Spainâs general legal limit of 0.25 mg/l.
The Gran Canaria native was recovering from a hamstring injury sustained in late July and was not present with the Real Madrid first-team squad at the time.
The conviction comes as Asencio prepares for another court appearance in Gran Canaria regarding an ongoing legal case from 2023 involving the alleged non-consensual sharing of a sexual video.
Three former Real Madrid reserve players are also scheduled for trial in connection with the video case. Spanish media reports suggest Asencio expects the charges in that matter to be withdrawn if the women involved formally accept his apology during court proceedings.
