Buhari’s Ex-Aide to Davido: Why I scored 16 votes in APC primaries

Bashir Ahmad, an aide to former President Muhammadu Buhari, has explained to prominent singer, David Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, why he scored 16 votes in the 2022 primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the House of Representatives.

The Special Assistant to the President on Digital Communications from 2015 to 2023 offered the explanation on his X handle.

This followed a jibe by Davido after a comment by Ahmed on his post that he was present when President Bola Ahmed Tinubu called his uncle and Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke.

The call by Tinubu came after the President overruled the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission for blocking the account of Osun State, days before the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

Quoting a post by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Davido wrote: “I was there live! I witnessed history!!! 🇳🇬🇳🇬😂😂😂”

Ahmad responded to Davido’s post, saying he had bookmarked it for future reference.

He tweeted: “This tweet is bookmarked. 

“It will serve as a reference for future events. 

“I know you will come back here to lament if the August 15 results don’t go your way.”

Davido then responded by criticising Ahmad’s political party, the APC, accusing its members of attempting to influence electoral outcomes.

He also referred to the 16 votes Ahmad secured in the House of Representatives primaries in his Gaya/Ajingi/Albasu Federal Constituency in Kano State.

He tweeted: “Offcourse because same way you clowns can call the INEC Chairman to write Election results… guy free me, my own no good.

“U got 16 votes bro in primaries STFU!! 😂.”

Responding the the tweet by Davido, Ahmad further tweeted: “Since the conversation surrounding my participation in the 2022 House of Representatives primary election has resurfaced, though I am not yet ready to reveal, in detail, everything that transpired during that process, but I feel it is important to say this unequivocally that it is simply not true that I got 16 votes.

“The reality is that there was no credible primary election in the first place. If there had been, I am very confident I would have been the winner.

“There is verifiable evidence of how the process was rigged, including videos and other materials that support my claim.

“Therefore, any figures being circulated by Davido, his supporters or anyone else from that purported exercise are misleading and do not reflect a transparent, legitimate or credible primary election.

“The full story will be told at the appropriate time.”
