A young man in Lapaz, Accra, has shared footage showing the aftermath of a burglary at his home, after a thief reportedly broke in through the ceiling while he was away, stealing cash he had set aside for a bank deposit, along with other personal belongings.
Video from the scene shows a gaping hole torn through the ceiling, with roofing timber and sheeting visibly damaged above the entry point.
Inside, the room is left in disarray, with shoe racks knocked over, boxes overturned, and items scattered across the floor as he documents the extent of the intrusion, captioned simply, “So sad.”
The break-in adds to a familiar pattern of ceiling-entry burglaries reported across Accra and other Ghanaian cities, where suspects exploit gaps between ceiling boards and roofing to gain access to homes without needing to force doors or windows, often while occupants are away for extended periods.
Such thefts frequently go unnoticed until the homeowner returns, by which point suspects have typically fled with cash and valuables.
According to him in the video he posted, he had already deposited a large amount of his money into the bank a day before the incident but still left 50,000 cedis there which they took and left.
